Areas Greymark Design + Build Serve:

Immerse yourself in the distinguished charm of Houston's Memorial area, nestled to the west of bustling Downtown, the north of sophisticated Uptown, and the south of scenic Spring Branch. Memorial, enriched by the meandering Buffalo Bayou to the south, the expansive Barker Reservoir on its western flank, and the quaint, self-governing Memorial Villages to the east, boasts a rich architectural diversity, with mid-century modern styles adorning its affluent, tree-lined neighborhoods.

Experience the fusion of office and retail in major developments including Memorial City, Town & Country Village, and CityCentre. The west side of Memorial seamlessly overlaps with the Energy Corridor, a thriving business district populated by numerous energy-focused firms, adding to the area's appeal. Memorial's name is inspired by the Memorial Drive, a central artery running east-west through the area.

Rewind to the past, when Memorial was graced by grand country estates and farmlands. The 1940s saw the town of Addicks relocate to Memorial's western fringe due to the creation of the Addicks Reservoir by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This significant flood control project also gave birth to Barker Reservoir and channelized Buffalo Bayou in the 1950s.

The rapid expansion of Houston in the 1960s led to the establishment of numerous subdivisions within Memorial, including Nottingham Forest, Westchester, and Fonn Villas. The Memorial Bend subdivision, developed in the mid-50s, stands out for its excellent collection of mid-century modern houses. This residential growth coincided with the transformation of U.S. Route 90 into Interstate 10 and significant retail development.

Despite early resistance to the construction of Texas State Highway Beltway 8 through Memorial, the project came to fruition in the late 1980s due to financial constraints. The area saw continued population increase between 1980 and 1990. Major renovations occurred at Memorial City Mall from 1999 to 2003, turning it into a vibrant mixed-use district with office towers, hotels, and apartments. The former Town and Country Mall, constructed in the 1980s, was revitalized in 2005 as CityCentre, a pedestrian-friendly mixed-use district.
