Modern Family

With a young child, two dogs, and a mid-century home they loved but had outgrown day to day, this family came to us wanting a true primary suite, a living room that actually fit their life, and one clear deadline: done by Christmas.

Before

Before: A Living Room Too Small for the Rest of the House

The primary suite had a bathroom that started out as a converted closet, workable for a while but never quite big enough for a family of three plus two dogs' worth of gear. The bigger issue was down the hall: the living room felt cramped and out of proportion next to the kitchen and dining spaces around it, more like a leftover corner than the room where the family actually wanted to spend their time.

After

After: An Addition That Gave Them Room to Live

Adding onto the back of the house turned out to be the move that solved everything at once. The extra square footage gave the living room the size it always should have had, finally making it a comfortable place to relax and entertain, and it created room for a primary suite worth calling a dream: a spa-like bathroom and a large closet with details like a dedicated vanity that make the whole space feel intentional.

The homeowner's Pinterest board turned out to be a genuinely great guide through the whole design process. Her love of green tile, Terrazzo, and mid-century style shaped the palette for the closets and bathrooms throughout, and the finished bathroom ended up looking almost identical to the inspiration photo that started it all.

Both homeowners had wanted a fireplace for years, and the enlarged living room finally had the space for one, flanked by built-in bench seating that's already the family dog's favorite spot to nap. Out back, a new covered patio in Saltillo Mexican clay tile extends the living room outdoors through a wide set of doors, giving the family the indoor-outdoor entertaining space they pictured from the start.

Our team also handled the conversations around the neighborhood's deed restrictions on siding and brick proportions, a detail the family never had to think about because we managed it for them.

The whole project came together smoothly, in large part because these homeowners trusted our team and made decisions quickly. When a few questions came up mid-construction, a quick conversation resolved them before they became anything bigger, the kind of partnership that makes a project like this genuinely enjoyable for everyone involved.
